James J. White
James J. White was born in Los Angeles, CA. He attended University of California Berkeley where he graduated in 1991 with a degree in Sociology. He worked for the defense firm Alswang, Smith and Walsh while attending university. After working a year Mr. White enrolled at Seattle University School of Law.
Seattle University was ranked 2nd in the nation for its legal writing program. While a student, Mr. White worked as a Rule 9 (student lawyer) for the Department of Assigned Counsel (DAC) in Tacoma defending criminal cases. He used his legal writing training to have cases dismissed on motion. He also won a number of jury trials.
James graduated and went to work full time at Associated Counsel for the Accused (ACA) in King Co. He continued to win jury trials and was assigned to the DUI emphasis court in Renton. There he handled hundreds of DUI's over the next two years before transferring to the felony division. James continued to win trials in superior court.
After 10 years of public defense Mr. White changed to private practice. He practices regularly in all King County and Pierce County courts and the municipal courts therein. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and the Washington Defender's Association.
Outside the office James enjoys coaching kids in basketball, playing chess and raising sheep.
